when <ref> works, add a note to the simple root on md0 comment: But this can also cause problems - root could be mounted on /dev/md0 and you could add a new disk that has a raid partition. The builtin tries to assemble it as md0 and even if it fails, the original md0 is now md1 and your system won't boot. The recommended RAID Boot approach avoids this problem. DavidGreaves
